Smith & Fong offers bamboo flooring, architectural plywood

January 3, 2008 - San Francisco, Calif. - Bamboo flooring pioneer Smith & Fong Co. now offers a full range of Plyboo® bamboo flooring and architectural plywood.

Unique to the hard surface flooring industry, Plyboo bamboo flooring has grown in popularity and can now be found in homes throughout America. With its easy installation, durability and good looks, Plyboo is specified for its environmental credentials and its adaptability to design themes. Plyboo bamboo flooring is produced either flat- or edge-grain, prefinished or unfinished in a natural or amber color. The company also offers a comprehensive range of trim moldings such as stair-nosing, thresholds, reducers, base-shoes, and baseboards. Average hardness is 1,500 lbf.

Plyboo architectural plywood is made from 100-percent rapidly renewable bamboo, using adhesives that are both strong and low emitting. It can be cut and sanded using conventional woodworking equipment and can be glued or mechanically fastened using the same materials and fasteners commonly used with wood. Available in both amber and a natural light tone, in two different surface grains-edge and flat-Plyboo plywood is a low-resin, open-grained material that takes stains and finishes exceptionally well. Panels are unfinished and sanded to 180 grit, and can be treated for Class I fire rating. Standard sizes are 7/8" x 4' x 8'; 3/4" x 4' x 8'; _1/4" x 4' x 8'; and 1/8" x 4' x 8'.

In early 2008 Smith & Fong introduced PlybooPure™, a full range of urea formaldehyde-free Plyboo flooring and plywood panels.

Plyboo products contribute points toward the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC)'s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Credit MR 6: Rapidly Renewable Materials. PlybooPure products can contribute points toward LEED EQ 4.4: No Added Urea Formaldehyde.
