About Plyboo

Welcome to Plyboo.com, the official site of Smith & Fong Co., manufacturers of the Plyboo® and Durapalm® product lines. Our company began in San Francisco in 1989 and has grown to become one of the most respected names in sustainable building materials.

We are passionate about what we do and for this reason we have focused on three key areas: useful and innovative designs; testing and certification and providing our customers with the best service possible.

From our conception, Smith & Fong has always had both feet in bamboo starting with a laminated bamboo accessories line in the late 1980’s. From there we were first to market with bamboo flooring in 1993, first to market with bamboo plywood in 1996 and first to market with palm flooring and plywood in 2000. We then followed this with early innovations in stranded bamboo in 2001.

On the sustainability front, in 2007, Smith & Fong developed the first formaldehyde-free manufacturing process for both bamboo and palm. We felt it was time to tackle indoor air quality as well as afterlife disposal concerns. We then supported our work with California Section 01350 testing. We followed this in 2008 with certified FSC Pure bamboo “because they said it couldn’t be done”. In 2009 we converted our formaldehyde free production to work with a soy-based adhesive. We were first to the bamboo market with this innovation and remain so today. We are always working on something useful and looking for new solutions for manufacturing and environmental challenges.

We could not have made this possible without the support and encouragement of our families, friends and our dedicated customers. For this reason we have endeavored to have the products you need when you need them and to answer the call of your curiosity. To better support curiosity, we have now added a most-frequently-asked-questions section to our website and provided a box at the bottom so you can ask the un-asked question.  We’re waiting.

From our humble coastal California origins, Smith & Fong’s products are now available throughout North America as well as Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We offer custom manufacturing and design solutions for a wide range of applications and always welcome a new challenge.
